Puppy Pandemonium [Open]

Who: Everyone
Mission Location: Lord Hater's Ship, the Overworld, and/or a deserted tropical island
Time: Not long after the first recruitment wave
Mission Objective: Retrieve 99 scattered puppies. No, really.
Warnings: None yet
Notes: Feel free to have your character participate in multiple teams on multiple worlds - nobody said this mission is getting done all at once.

You haven’t been at at the Nexus very long before you’re summoned to the main briefing room; the summons is delivered via your comm, urgent, and not a request.

Maybe you arrive first, or maybe you get there dead last; either way, you’ll find Loehmann, the head of CFP-DNR, and Burr, the communications officer and second in command, waiting for you. You recognize them both; one or the other of them approached you with your recruitment offer, and you were introduced to the other upon arrival. Regardless, Loehmann waits until the last person arrives before getting started.

“A mass mission is the last thing I wanted to do, especially one so soon after recruitment, but here we are. This mission shouldn’t be too dangerous, but it is big enough to upset the balance of several dimensions that were already in trouble, which makes it our number one priority. Long story very short, ninety-nine dalmatian puppies have fallen into three separate dimensions, and your job is to round them up and bring them here so we can send them home.”

He pauses for a moment or two to allow that to sink in. “And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Welcome to the wild world of dimensional travel. You’ll be allowed to pick which dimension you’d like to enter, within reason; you may be reassigned if one dimension doesn’t have enough operatives, or if you pick one that we deem is an ill fit for you.” He doesn’t look at Jack when he says this, but there are few other people in the room that he could possibly be referring to.

“Burr and Li will be operating the DRT and transporting you in small groups. Remember, you’ll be able to communicate with each other while you’re on mission, but you’ll be incommunicado to the nexus. Take it in stages if you need to; drop puppies off here as you gather them, and we’ll send you back. We’ll take care of sending them home from there. Do not take any unnecessary risks.”

He gestures to the door, indicating dismissal. “Burr, if you’ll escort them to the DRT. Li is already waiting there for you - she should have the dimensional coordinates keyed in by now. Good luck, everyone.”

You follow Burr to the DRT terminal and split into groups once inside. (At least one of you has enough heart to make sure nobody’s left on their lonesome. This is a group mission, after all.) Burr heads to her station at the DRT ops board and sees you off with a smile; Li, already at her station, does not. Regardless, you’re on your way.

Option 1

The scene is utter chaos. You’ve appeared in what seems to be the interior of a spaceship, decorated entirely in black and red, interspersed with banners of what seems to be a robe-wearing skeleton. It might be intimidating, or at least impressive, were it not for the dozens of knee-high purple-clad eyeballs running in every direction. Some have found some of the misplaced puppies and are happily cuddling them; some have attempted to round the puppies up, with very limited success; and the rest are simply running around in a blind panic, yelling and scattering puppies every which way, which is helping no one. Finding the puppies in this madhouse is going to be fun and interesting. Lord Hater, resident robe-wearing skeleton with the ability to shoot lightning from his fingers, is sick of the chaos and may well blame you for instigating it and go on the attack (though whether it’s apt is a crapshoot); Commander Peepers, his second in command, just wants the puppies off this ship however possible; and the Watchdogs, semi-panicked purple-clad eyeballs that they are, may or may not be helpful depending on the circumstances.

Honestly, if you want to get out of this as painlessly as possible, your best bet is to find the orange fluffy guy probably wandering around the ship somewhere. He’s esoteric but always willing to help; his partner, though protective, is the far more practical one. (Also, don’t be surprised if they find you first.)

Option 2

The landscape you arrive in is lush, expansive, and quiet. You may hear the occasional pig or cow, but that’s about it; otherwise, the verdant world seems to be mostly abandoned. There are forests, and valleys with lakes and rivers, and mountains, all sprawling out as far as the eye can see. It just looks a little more angular than you’re accustomed to.

Your main problem here isn’t going to be defending yourself; it’ll be finding the puppies spread across this vast expanse.

(Also, you may not want to stay until nightfall. Just saying.)

Option 3

It’s sweltering here. And full of palm trees. And sandy. Congratulations; you’ve landed on what seems to be a tropical island. There’s no time for a leisurely vacation, though, as it looks though you’ll need to search for puppies through a thick swath of jungle. On top of that, it sounds like you’re not alone; off in the distance, you can faintly hear a...musical number?

There don’t seem to be many natural predators in the jungle; heading through them will lead you to a series of caves, one of which has a big pit with some empty treasure chests at the bottom. If you walk along the coast long enough, you may see a large sailing ship in the distance, looking as though it’s anchored for now. Be careful, though; going the wrong direction could mean you run afoul of the locals, or potentially worse, pirates.
